Jubilee Insurance Partners With Exigent Limited on an Iconic Cycling Event

Nairobi, Kenya, Monday 24th October 2022

Jubilee Insurance has today announced title sponsorship for the Jubilee Live Free Race organized by Exigent Limited. The sponsorship is valued at KES 20 million; KES 10 million in cash paid towards the event planning and a further KES 10 million on the advertising and promotion.

Jubilee Live Free Race will bring together cycling enthusiasts from The East African Community. Cycling has recorded growing interest across the East African region in the last few years. During the pandemic, many people took up cycling to de-stress, commute, and exercise. The sport which began as a hobby has now been integrated as a lifestyle in the post-pandemic period.

Jubilee Live Free Race will host cycling enthusiasts and their families for a fun and competitive race. The event will also provide a platform to advocate for mental and physical wellness.

Jubilee Insurance Group Executive Officer Dr. Julius Kipngetich noted that wellness is a strategic business agenda for the company as it underpins physical and mental health. Maisha Fiti, the company’s wellness platform, gives guidance on physical and mental well-being while creating a community for like-minded individuals to share their ideas and experiences.

“We are very excited to partner with Exigent Limited and Amani Racing Team to host the Jubilee Live Free Race. Our business is embedded on promoting wellness among our customers and the communities that we serve. This event will build on our business commitment and provide an opportunity to discuss how physical wellness improves our health,” said Dr. Kipngetich.

Physical activity positively contributes to improved mental health and overall health and wellbeing. Research shows that exercise reduces anxiety, negative mood, and social withdrawal. Exigent Limited Co-Ordinator Loise Wachira noted that creating a platform where individuals and families can participate in fun sporting events like cycling is a commendable step towards improving physical activity. She added that beyond physical activity, this event will showcase the strides that Kenya Urban Roads Authority is making towards non-motorized transport and aligning with on climate action initiatives towards reduced emissions.

“We have noticed an increasing cycling appetite among individuals and different groups in Kenya and across the region. Jubilee Live Free Race is an inclusive cycling event that gives both recreational and professional cyclists an opportunity to compete and do what they do best. We are confident that this event will not only be fun, but it will also give us a platform to host informative conversations on the role of physical exercise in general wellness,” said Ms. Wachira.

Jubilee Live Free Race will be flagged off at KICC and will consist of 4 race categories: The Black Mamba (48 kms), Family Fun Ride (16 kms), Physically Challenged Race (48 kms) and the Main Race (80 kms). Individuals, cycling groups and corporate teams are eligible to register and participate in the event.

Jubilee Insurance Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications Caroline Ndungu noted that the Jubilee Live Free will engage different stakeholders and promote the company’s brand affiliation among different audiences.

“The Jubilee Live Free Ride is an excellent opportunity to demonstrate how individuals and corporate groups can live free through physical exercise. This activation is an expression of our Live Free brand position,” noted Caroline.

Jubilee Insurance Group Chief Operating Officer Juan Cazcarra noted that the Jubilee Live Free Race will enable the company to engage and appreciate all its stakeholders as it celebrates 85 years since inception.

“Jubilee Live Free Race will provide us an opportunity to advocate for the wellness agenda that drives our business and to also celebrate and engage with our stakeholders who have not only trusted us for 85 years but also contributed to our solid legacy and business success,” added Mr. Cazcarra.
Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA) Chief Corporate Communications John Cheboi commended the vision of Live Free Race and reinforced that KURA will give the necessary support to make the race a success.

“We are working with the convenors of the Jubilee Live Free Race to identify and secure the route map for this event. We are excited and looking forward to this exciting event coming to life,” said Mr. Cheboi.
