Mr. Grace Jethro Kavuma

Director

Mr. Kavuma is a seasoned accountant with vast experience having worked in Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, West Africa and the UK. He was appointed to the Board in 2018. He holds a degree in Bachelor of Commerce (Accounting) from Makerere University and a Masters in Finance from Washington International University. Mr. Kavuma has worked in various sectors including Oil & Gas, Banking and Audit. He is also a board member in a number of institutions in Uganda. Mr. Kavuma is the Chairman of the Board Audit and Compliance Committee.

Ms. Grace Ssali

Director

Mrs. Grace Ssali Kiwanuka is Executive Director of the Uganda Healthcare Federation (UHF). UHF is an association of associations, membership umbrella body for the Uganda private health sector, championing private health sector interests through advocacy and program implementation. With over 10 years private health sector management experience, Grace Co-Chairs Uganda’s Public Private Partnerships in Health Technical Working Group, represents private sector on the Ministry of Health – Health Policy Advisory Committee, is part of the National Health Insurance Task Force and contributes to the National Quality in Health Coordination Committee.

Mrs. Shaherose Jamal

Shaherose joined the Jubilee Life Insurance Company Uganda Limited Board in 2014.

She qualified as a Solicitor in U.K and has two undergraduate degrees, in Law and also in Economics and Social sciences; and she completed her Legal Practice course from College of Law, Guilford, UK in 1994. After completing her professional training, she gained extensive experience in legal practice and her areas of expertise include Litigation, Employment law and Company law.

Shaherose brings diverse international perspective and insight to her work. With her multi disciplinary background, she has advised in private and family-owned businesses across a variety of industries.

At JLICU, she chairs the Board Remuneration and Human Resource Committee and is also a member of Board Risk and Compliance Committee and Board Audit Committee. Shaherose is also a dedicated advocate for sustainability, and environment.

Shaherose is a committed volunteer and has been a member of the leadership of the Ismaili Muslim community both in Uganda and the UK for the past 28 years and has served in various Institutional and religious committees.

Mr. John Metcalf Joseph

Mr. Metcalf was appointed to the Board in 2006. He has extensive international experience in the insurance industry and is currently the Head of Insurance for the Aga Khan Fund for Economic Development (AKFED).He is a Director on the Boards of the Company’s insurance subsidiaries. Before joining the Company, he was the Executive Chairman of the Allianz Group Insurance subsidiaries in Egypt.Mr. Metcalf is a Fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute and holds a BA (Hons) in Banking Insurance & Finance from Sheffield Hallam University. Mr. Metcalf is a member of the Board Finance Committee, Board Audit & Compliance Committee, Board Nominating & HR committee and Board IT Committee.

Mr. Varghese Thambi

Director

Mr. Varghese Thambi is a seasoned Banker with over 47 years of experience in the Banking sector, both in India and Uganda. He was the Managing Director/CEO of Diamond Trust Bank Uganda from June 2007 to June 2024. Currently, he is the Director- Advisory with Grant Thornton Uganda.

Mr. Thambi was instrumental in setting up Bancassurance business in India’s IndusInd Bank in 2006 and later in DTB Uganda in 2017. Mr Thambi is a Graduate in Physics from University of Calicut, India and Post Graduate Diploma in Cyber Laws from the National University of Law, Hyderabad. He is a Hon. Fellow of the Uganda Banking & Financial Services. He is also a Board member of Financial Technologies Services Providers’ Association Uganda (FITSPA)

Ms. Mary Kansiime Nyende

Dr. Kansiime Mary Nyende is the Director Professional Development at the Uganda Institute of Banking and Financial services (UIBFS) from January 2024 to date, a directorate charged with delivering the institute’s Professional Development and Training strategy. She holds a Doctorate in Business Administration and Management; specializing in financial management, Master of Management, and Post Graduate Diploma in project planning & management of Uganda Management Institute, Kampala.  She also holds a Bachelors in Adult and Community Education of Makerere University.

Mary is a dynamic executive and seasoned banker with over 15 years of expertise in risk and financial management, Wealth management, investment advisory, strategy development, research, consultancy and Financial inclusion.

Prior to joining UIBFS, she worked with dfcu bank for 9 years, where she held various senior positions including Head Pinnacle Banking, Head Transactional Banking and Head of sales, and contributed to the bank’s successful business growth and retention. She also worked with Housing Finance Bank for 5years in capacity of Ag. Head Corporate Banking, senior relationship Manager, and positively impacted the Bank’s growth.

Mary is the secretary of the Uganda Leasing Association, Director TAMKA investments Ltd and a Director at Mt. Seeta Junior School. She prides herself in nurturing young talent through mentoring and is fuelled by seeing those regarded as disadvantaged excel in both their personal and professional lives.

Mr. William Sekabembe Nkemba

William Sekabembe is a seasoned corporate executive with over 24 years of experience in the banking sector, specializing in areas such as mergers and acquisitions, business strategy, customer experience, channel development, risk management, and organizational redesign. Sekabembe has a proven track record of driving successful business transformations and optimizing revenue growth through strategic leadership and innovative product development.

Throughout his career, William has held key leadership positions in prominent financial institutions such as DFCU Bank, Stanbic Bank Uganda Ltd, and ABSA Uganda where he spearheaded various initiatives to enhance customer engagement, expand market presence, and drive business performance. Noteworthy achievements include leading DFCU Bank into the top 5 banks in Uganda.

Additionally, Sekabembe holds advanced degrees in Business Administration and Economic Policy and Planning from renowned institutions like the International Institute for Management Development (IMD) and Makerere University, further solidifying his expertise in strategic management and financial leadership. He is also actively involved in board memberships and professional associations, demonstrating his commitment to industry excellence and community development.

Ms. Njeri Jomo Beth

Appointed in 2022, Njeri Jomo is the Chief Executive Officer and Principal Officer of Jubilee Health Insurance, bringing over 20 years of experience in insurance, strategy execution, and business transformation. She is a highly skilled leader in health financing, digital innovation, risk management, and distribution strategy, driving growth, operational excellence, and access to quality healthcare solutions.

She serves on the Association of Kenya Insurers (AKI) Board, the General Insurance Council, and the Strategy & Legal Affairs Committee. She is also a Board Member of Jubilee Health Insurance Uganda and Tanzania, contributing to finance, risk, and audit oversight as a member of the Board Finance & Investment Committee (BFIC), Board Audit Committee (BAC), and Board Risk & Compliance Committee (BRCC).

Njeri holds an Executive MBA from USIU Africa and Frankfurt School of Finance and Management and a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration (Marketing). She is a Fellow and Associate of the Life Management Institute (FLMI, ALMI) and holds a Diploma in Insurance, an Award in Bancassurance (CII, London), and a Certificate of Proficiency (COP) in Life & General Insurance. She is a Certified Corporate Governance Professional from the Women on Boards Network (WOBN), with expertise in board leadership, governance structures, and fiduciary duties.

A recognized industry expert, Njeri is an Associate Member of the Insurance Institute of Kenya (IIK) and a Member of the Chartered Insurance Institute (CII), UK.

Dorcus Kuhimbisa

Dorcus Kuhimbisa is a dynamic insurance executive with over a decade of experience in operations, risk management, business transformation, and strategic leadership. As the Chief Operations Officer at Jubilee Life – Uganda, she plays a pivotal role in shaping the company’s vision, overseeing cross-functional teams, and ensuring strict adherence to regulatory frameworks and corporate governance. Her leadership drives business process improvements, product innovation, and market expansion to unlock new growth opportunities.

Firmly believing that “excellence in insurance operations is built on precision, strategy, and a customer-centric approach,” Dorcus is a graduate of the Senior Leadership Program at Strathmore University. She possesses advanced skills in executive decision-making, strategic resource planning, and transformational leadership, with expertise spanning life insurance administration, reinsurance management, product development, digital transformation, change management, and regulatory compliance.

Previously, as Deputy Chief Operations Officer at Prudential Assurance Uganda Ltd, Dorcus played a critical role in enhancing operational efficiency, developing innovative business strategies, and creating customer-centric solutions. She holds a bachelor’s degree in actuarial science from Makerere University and a Diploma in Insurance from the Insurance Training College, complemented by specialized training in life underwriting, product pricing, AML compliance, reinsurance management, and supply chain management from leading industry organizations.

Linda Byaruhanga is a transformational leader in financial services with over 15 years of experience in bancassurance, business development, banking operations, and stakeholder management. As a visionary strategist, she has played a crucial role in building, expanding, and optimizing business channels that drive revenue growth, operational efficiency, and long-term partnerships. As the Chief of Distribution at Jubilee Life Insurance, Linda has transformed bancassurance from a startup operation into a market-leading business channel. Through her strategic initiatives, she successfully secured over 14 key bancassurance partnerships within three years, enhancing Jubilee Life Insurance’s competitive position in the industry.

Linda has been instrumental in designing competitive bancassurance models, structuring compensation and incentive plans, and ensuring seamless partner relationship management.
