Empowering Women in Insurance: Building Trust, Relationships, and Financial Confidence

By Violah Janet Namayanja – Training Manager

Over the years, I have sat across from many women entering the insurance field, unsure about the industry, doubting their abilities, and questioning whether insurance was truly a space where they could thrive. Each time, I share the same reminder: insurance is, at its heart, a human business. It is carried by empathy, built through trust, and sustained by meaningful relationships. And these are strengths that women naturally and powerfully bring to the industry.

As we celebrate Women’s Month, I want to speak directly to the women working in insurance and to those contemplating joining the field. There is room for you here, and more importantly, the industry is better because of you.

Trust is the quiet foundation of everything we do. It cannot be manufactured through scripts or perfected sales techniques; it grows through consistency, integrity, and genuine care for clients’ well-being. Women excel in these areas. Conversations about family, future security, and financial protection often require emotional intelligence, patience, and sincerity. When a woman speaks with another woman about safeguarding her children’s future or ensuring her family’s stability, the interaction becomes more than a transaction; it becomes a shared understanding.

This is the culture we intentionally nurture at Jubilee Life. We train not just to sell, but to guide families through decisions that shape their futures. Our focus is on conversations that matter because when clients feel heard and supported, they make choices that serve them in the long term.

In this work, women’s strength lies not only in their ability to connect but also in how they build relationships that go beyond individual policies. The most successful women agents I have worked with sit with families as partners, not advisers, dictating solutions. They ask deeper questions about fears, dreams, and definitions of security, and, in doing so, become trusted partners on a family’s financial journey. These relationships last. Clients return, they refer others, and they become advocates because they genuinely feel cared for.

One of the most rewarding transformations I see in my role is the increase in women’s financial confidence. Many start in the industry unsure of financial terminology or intimidated by numbers. But as they learn, work with clients, and see firsthand how consistent savings and long-term planning create value, something meaningful happens. Understanding takes hold. Confidence follows. Suddenly, a woman who once doubted her financial skills becomes a champion of financial empowerment for herself and the families she helps. This growth not only boosts her career but also her independence and sense of possibility.

Insurance also provides something rare and empowering: equal opportunity. Success depends on performance, discipline, and relationship-building, not gender or hierarchy. For many women who have navigated environments where their contributions were undervalued, this merit-based approach is freeing. However, individual success thrives when supported by a community. At Jubilee Life, we intentionally cultivate a culture where women support each other, celebrate wins together, and share knowledge that lifts the entire team. We believe in competing with the market, not against each other. That solidarity is not only great leadership but also a strong growth strategy.

To every woman considering a career in insurance, understand this: the skills you already have, your ability to listen, empathize, build trust, and nurture relationships, are exactly what this industry needs. The technical skills will develop through training and experience. Financial knowledge will grow over time. What truly matters, the desire to help people protect what’s most important, is something you already possess.

This Women’s Month, I want to reaffirm what I see every day: women are not just part of the insurance industry; they are transforming it. Your dreams are achievable. Your clients’ dreams are achievable. And through the consistent discipline of financial planning, we can reach them together.
